1909 In the northern region of the Yukon basinon the upper
part of the Koyukuk. Gold was discovered on the Koyukuk in 1899
and while no great amount of the metal has come out in any one
year the aggregate entitles the Koyukuk diggings to rank among
the important gold regions of Alaska. During the past few years
about 300 miners and traders have lived in this region but the
number will be greatly augmented this year (1909) as recent discoveries
on tributaries of the Koyukuk give promise of a greater gold yield
than heretofore The total gold product of this part of Alaska during
the past ten years is more than $1,500,000.
